China’s Zijin Plans 1.5B USD Expansion of Peru Copper Mine

Zijin Mining Group is planning to invest about 1.5 USD billion to expand the La Arena copper mine in Peru as part of efforts to boost copper production in the South American country.

The company’s executive, Luo Yuchuan, said Zijin remains optimistic about Peru’s mining sector despite the country’s political challenges, noting that Peru continues to offer financial stability and strong mining potential.

Speaking at a mining forum in Lima, he explained that the company is also exploring additional mining opportunities in the country.

Zijin Mining acquired the La Arena copper and gold mine in late 2024 and plans to extend the mine’s operational lifespan by 19 years as part of the expansion project.
