Bauchi Flood Claims Two Lives
Deputy Governor visits Bara community in Kirfi LGA after devastating flood disaster.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has sympathised with residents of Bara community in Kirfi Local Government Area following a devastating flood that claimed two lives and destroyed hundreds of houses and other property.
The Governor, represented by his deputy, Rt. Hon. Auwal Mohammed Jatau, visited the community to assess the extent of the damage and convey the government’s condolences to the affected families.
Addressing residents, the deputy governor said the state government shares in the pain and suffering of the victims and assured them that immediate relief would be provided to cushion the impact of the disaster.
He directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to conduct a comprehensive assessment and document all losses to facilitate prompt intervention and the distribution of relief materials.
The Governor also assured residents that beyond emergency assistance, the government would explore lasting engineering solutions to address the flooding challenge and prevent a recurrence in the future.
Earlier, the Director-General of SEMA disclosed that the flood claimed two lives, destroyed 384 houses, affected 60 animals and damaged 10 shops, making it one of the most severe flooding incidents recorded in the area in recent times.
Chairman of Kirfi Local Government Area, Abdulkadir Dewu, said the council had constituted a committee to work closely with SEMA to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution of relief materials to affected residents.
In his remarks, the District Head of Bara, Muhammed Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for the prompt response and concern shown to the community.
He appealed to the state government to construct proper drainage channels and other flood-control infrastructure to reduce the impact of future flooding.
The deputy governor later toured affected areas of the community to assess the level of destruction firsthand and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to their welfare and recovery.
