Borno State Distributes Farm Inputs to 10,000 Firgi Farmers in Ajiri, Mafa LGA
In a major push to strengthen food security and support local farmers, the Borno State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources has launched a large scale distribution of farm inputs to 10,000 Firgi farmers in Ajiri town, Mafa Local Government Area. This initiative is part of Governor Engr. Prof. Baba Gana Umara Zulum’s Ten-Point Agenda, aimed at modernizing agriculture and ensuring sustainable food production in the state.

The event drew wide participation from government officials, community leaders, and agricultural stakeholders. It was led by Hon. Engr. Bawu Musami, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Maina Mustapha Arjinoma, the Borno State Fadama NG-CAREs Project Coordinator, directors, ministry staff, and members of the Borno State Agricultural Transformation Committee.

During the exercise, farmers received essential inputs including high-quality seeds, herbicides, and knapsack sprayers, all designed to enhance productivity and support efficient farm management. The initiative is expected to boost crop yields, improve livelihoods, and strengthen local food systems.

The distribution was further supported by Hon. Sunusi Mustapha, Chairman of Mafa LGA, district heads of Mafa, and traditional leaders such as Prince Abba Kawu Shehu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Emirates Affairs, El-Yakub Zanna Babakura, District Head of Ajiri Community, and Mutawalli Zanna Liberty, District Head of Zannari Kaleri. Their presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between government and communities in promoting agricultural development.

Hon. Engr. Bawu Musami commended the Mafa LGA Chairman for selecting genuine and committed farmer beneficiaries. He urged the farmers to apply modern farming techniques, manage their farms efficiently, and maximize the benefits of the support to enhance productivity and profitability.

This initiative forms part of our broader strategy to transform agriculture in Borno State, improve food security, and create sustainable livelihoods for our farmers. We are committed to ensuring every farmer has access to the resources needed to succeed, he said.

The Commissioner also highlighted ongoing efforts by the state government to provide technical support, capacity building, and market linkages, aiming to transform agriculture from subsistence to commercial scale. These interventions are expected to increase local food production, reduce dependency on imports, and empower rural communities economically.

Community members expressed gratitude for the government’s support. Farmers noted that quality seeds and herbicides would enhance planting efficiency and yield in the upcoming farming season. Local leaders emphasized that initiatives like this strengthen trust between the government and grassroots communities, fostering sustainable development.

The distribution of farm inputs in Ajiri town represents a key milestone in Borno State’s agricultural transformation agenda, and is expected to serve as a model for similar programs across other local government areas.
