Fake Corps Member Apprehended At NYSC Orientation Camp in Nasarawa

A fake female corps member has been arrested at the Magaji Dan Ya Musa National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Nasarawa State.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Nasarawa State Police spokesperson, Ramhan Nansel, on Thursday.

Nansel explained that the fake corps member was arrested following a complaint lodged at Keffi Divisional Headquarters by a staff member of NYSC on Sunday, Feb. 25, at about 8:30 p.m.

The Police Spokesperson said the suspect, who is an extra-year student of Public Administration, from Ebonyi State University, sneaked into the state NYSC camp for the 21-day orientation programme meant for the 2024 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members, and was discovered during a headcount.

He said the case was reported to the police by an NYSC official on Sunday, and she was apprehended by officers of the force.

The individual whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, was discovered to have falsified documents to gain entry into the orientation camp. This development highlights the need for enhanced security measures and vigilance to prevent fraudulent activities within the NYSC system.

Subsequently, investigation revealed that the suspect was a student of Ebonyi State University, Faculty of Management Science and Department of Public Administration.

She confessed that she was supposed to have graduated in 2022, but had a lot of spillover courses, and in a bid to cover up the lies she had made to her parents, she went to the market and purchased NYSC uniforms/other items meant for corps members and sneaked into the camp in order to take pictures and send to her parents before nemesis caught up with her,” he said.

Nansel also added that the suspect had been charged with criminal trespass, impersonation, and forgery at the Chief Magistrate Court in Keffi.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, warns anyone aspiring to follow in the footsteps of these phony corps members that they should reconsider because the law will eventually catch up with them.

Earlier, a fake corps member was nabbed in the Bauchi State orientation camp, while stolen phones were recovered.

The suspect, identified as Muhammed Bello Hassan, was alleged to have entered the camp at Wailo, the Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state, with a fake call-up letter.

Two mobile phones and some valuable items, alleged to have been stolen from corps members in the camp, were reportedly recovered from the suspect, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
