Governor Mutfwang Urges Unity as JNI Pays Sallah Homage in Plateau

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on residents to promote unity and peaceful coexistence as Muslims celebrate the end of Ramadan.

The governor made the call on Monday while receiving a Sallah homage from Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) at the Twin Theatre, New Government House, Little Rayfield in Jos.

Speaking during the visit, Mutfwang urged citizens to sustain the moral and spiritual lessons learned during the Ramadan fasting period, noting that values such as patience, compassion, and discipline are essential for building a peaceful and progressive society.

He emphasized the importance of interfaith harmony, saying interactions between people of different faiths help strengthen trust and understanding. According to him, peaceful engagement remains the key to lasting stability in the state.

Reflecting on the history of tensions in Plateau, the governor expressed optimism that residents have chosen the path of unity and collective development. He warned against violence and reprisals, stressing that no meaningful progress can come from conflict or loss of human life.

Mutfwang also commended Muslim leaders for their role in maintaining peace during recent security concerns and public protests in parts of the state, noting that their timely interventions helped prevent escalation.

The governor further disclosed that more than 1,100 intending pilgrims from Plateau State are expected to participate in the 2026 Hajj, with the government providing support to enable them fulfill their religious obligations.

Earlier, the Emir of Wase and Chairman of JNI in the state, Muhammad Sambo, praised the governor for promoting inclusive governance and strengthening peace and security across Plateau.

He also commended the state government for providing Ramadan food palliatives to vulnerable families and for ongoing infrastructural development projects, including road construction and the provision of vehicles to traditional rulers.

The JNI leadership reaffirmed the support of the Muslim community for the state government while appealing for additional logistical support, including a bus to enhance the organization’s activities across the state.

The event ended with the exchange of kolanuts, symbolizing unity, goodwill, and friendship among participants. 🤝
