NDLEA Busts Illicit Drug Warehouse in Edo, Arrests Suspect

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo State has uncovered and dismantled a major illegal drug warehouse in Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Monday, the State Commander of Narcotics, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect, Roland Owie, during the operation. Officers also recovered a large quantity of suspected cannabis sativa.

According to him, the raid led to the seizure of 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, with a combined weight of 1,378 kilograms.

Ofoyeju explained that the operation followed credible intelligence and demonstrates the agency’s determination to curb drug trafficking and abuse.

He described the discovery as a major breakthrough in the fight against illicit drugs, noting that removing such a large quantity of cannabis from circulation would help protect communities, particularly young people, from the dangers of substance abuse.

The NDLEA boss emphasized that cutting off drug supply remains a key part of the agency’s strategy, adding that every seizure weakens criminal networks involved in narcotics trafficking.

He warned that Edo State will not serve as a safe haven for drug traffickers, stressing that the agency remains committed to tracking down and dismantling illegal drug operations.
