Tech Entrepreneur Accuses EFCC of Harassment, Asset Seizure

A Nigerian tech entrepreneur, Akukoma Israel, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of harassment and unlawfully holding his belongings for nearly two years.

In a series of posts on X, Israel alleged that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede asked him to delete a previous complaint while also inviting him for a meeting. He questioned the purpose of the invitation, noting that he had visited EFCC offices over 40 times without any resolution, incurring significant travel costs.

The entrepreneur claimed that his vehicle and an iPhone 13 Pro Max have been in EFCC custody since 2024 without formal charges. He demanded their release or that he be charged in court, setting a deadline of April 21.

Israel also alleged that EFCC operatives raided his home in the early hours, pointing guns at him and his wife. He further accused officials of attempting to access his business bank account through the seized phone, sharing screenshots of alleged password reset attempts linked to his Moniepoint account.

Despite multiple petitions by his lawyers, he said there has been no compliance from the agency.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not issued an official response to the allegations.
