Tinubu Mourns Passing of Legendary Super Eagles Midfielder Henry Nwosu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Henry Onyemanze Nwosu, former Super Eagles midfielder, and one of Nigeria’s most exceptional football talents. Nwosu passed away at the age of 62, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Nigerian football.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commiserated with Nwosu’s family and the wider Nigerian football community.

“The nation mourns an exceptionally skilled football talent whose artistry on the field remains the stuff of legends,” the President said. “Henry Nwosu’s brilliance and passion for the game inspired countless compatriots and brought pride and joy to every Nigerian.”

Nwosu emerged as a teenage sensation in the Green Eagles squad that won Nigeria’s first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980. He went on to represent Nigeria in the continental tournaments of 1982, 1984, and 1988.

Recognizing his contributions to national pride and the development of sports in Nigeria, President Tinubu said: “He served the nation with distinction for more than a decade and left an indelible mark on Nigerian football history. The late playmaker will always be remembered for his dedication, humility, and the hope he inspired in young Nigerian athletes.”
