Nigerian Government Declares May 1st Public Holiday for Workers’ Day

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, May 1st, as a public holiday in honor of Workers' Day this year.

This announcement was made through a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, representing the Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, emphasized the importance of excellence, efficiency, and equity across all aspects of labor. He reiterated the administration’s commitment, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to nurturing a culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity in workplaces nationwide.

“In alignment with this year’s theme, which focuses on ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate, I wish to state that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its resolve to prioritize the safety and well-being of all citizens,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo affirmed.

He further underscored the President’s dedication to providing conducive work environments where every worker can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Recognizing the invaluable contributions of workers, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged proactive measures to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in implementing sustainable practices and policies to enhance well-being in workplaces, aligning with the principles of integrity, diligence, and compassion.

Additionally, the Minister urged Nigerians to uphold their commitment to the present administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, extending warm wishes to workers for a joyful celebration.
