The village Head of Mai Gari in Kano state’s Rimin Gado local government area was shot by suspected kidnappers on Sunday, according to SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kano state command.
The attackers had entered the home of the 70-year-old village head, Alhaji Dahiru Abbas, with the intention of kidnapping him, but shot him in the chest when he resisted.
Abbas was taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, but was pronounced dead by doctors during treatment.
Police authorities are working to apprehend the culprits, with Operation Restore Peace teams taking action to investigate the incident.
